The fine folks at Lexar have agreed to sponsor me and make me part of their Pro site. Once I begin writing articles for them I will let you know and give you a link. In the mean time, for the photographers among you, spend some time over there at Lexar’s Pro Site - there are many great articles and resources there. In addition to great digital media, Lexar is proving to be a pivotal part of the digital photography community.

Sign up and download it for free here - the wait is over for all you people still clinging to Windows like so many lifejackets in the cold atlantic as the Titanic goes down beside you. Sorry, is my bias showing?

In addition to creating new galleries, the Pixelated Image website has been completely rebuilt and went live this weekend. If you’ve not taken a look at the redesign, take a look. Feedback is welcome. Go here: www.pixelatedimage.com
Look for the Fall issue of PHOTOED coming out end of summer - it’s a special issue on Photojournalism and features some of my portfolio of Ethiopian Children alongside a short article.
Also the last edition of CLARION featured my images and a story about Tribal Cookbooks.

I was about to post this when Trevor weighed in asking about it. So this one’s for Trevor.
The new galleries on PixelatedImage are posted with Fluid Galleries (click here to go to their website). On purchase they place files on your server - you then access your admin page online and post photos, edit your configuration, etc. It’s very fast, very elegant, and intuitive. I won’t try to sell you on it - visit the galleries and see for yourself.
I love Fluid Galleries. The folks at Evrium Corp communicate well and clearly and the whole process for me went like a dream.
Additionally they have a referral program. If you have any intention of getting this software please let me know first. I will send in a referal and they will kindly send me $50. When they send my $50 I will send half of it to you as a thank you. You save, I save, we all win. But you have to tell me FIRST so I can send in a form saying I am referring you. Not trying to make money here, just pay off the software, and you get to save $25.
Check them out. Some of the nicest portfolios I have seen online have fluid galleries on the back end.

Suddenly my Epson R2400 stopped churning out gorgeous prints at my beck and call. Instead, unbidden, it churned out muddy, crappy, sludgy prints. It has been vexing me - displeasing me greatly. And no amount of pleading has done a thing. I played with profiles and color thingys and came very close to offering a sacrifice to whichever gods would hear and answer.
Then I put some new ink in, ran the utility to clean nozzles and heads, and BLAMMO! Gorgeous prints. After using nearly a box of Velvet Fine Art paper.
So the lesson, kids - is don’t freak out. Be calm. And run the utilities. Then slaughter a small mammal and howl at the moon. But only AFTEr running the utilities.

If you’re running Photoshop CS2 in english, then this will appeal to you. If it doesn’t, something is wrong with you. Something Dr. Brown just can’t fix. Otherwise - go here and download the Dr. Brown’s Services 1.4 Easy Installer for either Mac or Windows.
Why? you ask.
This installer puts a package of scripts into Photoshop and they do some great stuff.
A sample:
You’re in Bridge. You have an image you want 3 different jpgs of. Select the image, run the script, specify your jpg parameters and BLAMMO. This one’s called 1-2-3 JPEG
Another one. A great, simple conversion to BW or monotone with Black-n-White
More? You want MORE? Ok - You want to start playing around with Smart Objects - Enter the Place-O-Matic. The easiest way to place two different RAW images together so you can combine exposures, etc.
A bonus: Caption Maker - adds metadata captions to your images.
And there’s more. And they’re free. You want these. Especially you, Jay. That’s right, I’m talking to you. And while you’re there, poke around - Dr. Brown’s site is chock-full of goodies and tips and tricks and dog-gone it he seems like a such a nice guy too.
