Fish With SKINS
June 12th, 2008Steven Frischling, aka Fish, has a great blog for photographers who do alot of flying – if it’s not a frequent read for you it should be. Steve’s post a couple days ago was a review of the Think Tank Skins which I reviewed a while ago (link to the review HERE). If you’re on the fence about this excellent system, perhaps Steve’s thoughts will push you over.

I’ve been using the skin 50 and 75 components with the TT Changeup for about 2 months now. While the Skin 50 does an excellant job handling short lenses with attached hoods, the Skin 75 faulters. When the Skin 75 is loaded with a 70-200/2.8 lens, i find that the entire package swings around way too much because of the combination of the mass of the lens with the length of the component that’s unsupported. i’ve hit a few things like chairs when i have my lens in the there. I know on the thinktank site that it doesn’t directly say that you can use skin components on the changeup; where i have to position the larger components on the outside instead of in the middle towards the belly… But even thinking about that positioning; i figure it’d be a bad idea with a long’ish, heavy mass swinging over my “areas”. Let’s just call it ‘accident prevention’:-)
