Blackrapid R-Strap Winners Announced.

July 31st, 2008

rstraplogoI drove down to Seattle yesterday and spent the day with the Blackrapid team. The folks that bring you the Rapidstrap are awesome. Thanks to Ron, Tyler, Melissa, and Milo for having me. We had a really great time talking and scheming and I’m really excited by some of the ideas that got bounced around. One of those ideas was my demand request for an R-Strap that’s pared down and able to be integrated into the other R-Straps for shooters like me who use two bodies. And while I can’t make any promises, and I swore a secret oath not to reveal too much, I can say that good things are in the works. Maybe. Keep watching this blog and the Blackrapid site – you never know what might turn up – just don’t hold your breath (seriously, don’t hold your breath).

In the meantime – two things:

First, the Blackstrap YouTube Video Challenge – and a chance to win $500. Check it out HERE.

Second, the winners of the Pixelated Image/R-Strap Giveaway. I took all the names and submitted them to a complicated logarithm-thingy and…ok, I promised my cat some catnip and she picked four names and they are as follows…drum roll please…

Still not hearing the drum roll…ah forget it.

OK, the following four lucky readers will be getting an R-Strap. If your name is on the list, please email me with a mailing address and I’ll have them in the mail asap. Congrats to…

1. Jay Stott

2. Marymuses

3. Doug Little

4. Stephen at FocusedOnLight.com

The rest of you, get working on your YouTube video – c’mon, it’s $500! Think of how many R-Straps that would buy! Thanks to all who participated. Y’all come back now y’hear!?

    Aloha,

I just ordered a couple of your straps to try out and can hardly wait for them to arrive. It seems to be the final word in camera straps and small peripheral item carriers. If they work as I believe they will I’ll subsequently order a dozen more for the rest of my cameras, as well as my wife’s 6 Canons.

I’m a photojournalist editor for an international news and entertainment media assigned to the Pacific/Asian beat. I use a Canon 1D Mark III, 2 1Ds Mark IIIs, a G9, a new G10, a 40D, and my 2 new 50Ds just about all day long for work and my intense love of nature and dog photography.

Our love of animals has also resulted in my wife and I breeding, training, and photographing dogs for 30 years. We own and operate WinKim Kennels in Honolulu and are dedicated to Shih Tzus and Japanese Spitz, exclusively.

We’re fortunate to be able to have a nice, spacious beachfront property where we reside and also maintain our kennels. This combination of living less than 20 feet from the ocean as well as always having litters of puppies running around creates wonderful photo opportunities for us.

My travels throughout the Pacific basin area, as well as my Asian assignments also add excellent images to our diverse photo albums’ content.

Everyday situations for me will certainly make these BlackRapid straps not only useful, but necessary. No longer will I be standing in line at the airport or crowded press rooms jabbing someone in the butt with my neck strapped camera and lens.

I’ll be able to “quick draw” either of my SLRs to capture those once in a lifetime shots which would have been missed because of the slow reaction time caused by a double neck strap.

Wearing two neck strapped Canon 1Ds Mark IIIs with, say, a Canon 28mm-300mm, IS, L lens and a 16mm-35mm, wide angle L lens has me walking around like a pretzel towards the end of the day. It looks like the new BlackRapid straps will finally relieve me of this crippling effect. In my case, these straps will make photography pure pleasure once again.

My Christmas wish is for an ingenius solution to carry 3 SLRs with lens while I’m on an assignment requiring the use of 3 specific lens to precisely cover any format or composition. I’m sure Dave duChemin will, in his infinite wisdom and talents, invent yet another great camera enhancement for us working and avid hobby photographers.

    Later,

    Keoni
