Polaroid POGO: Video Review
August 1st, 2008Ok folks, take two on the video thing. I just got my hands on the new Polaroid Pogo printer. Not surprisingly, I love them. Here’s my review in Quicktime format. I’ve made it much larger, so apologies to those of you without the bandwidth. (Short version: Small portable printer, and I love it.)
This one’s bigger. Maybe too big. but I wouldn’t say it’s much better. I just don’t know where to hold stuff without it being out of frame. I’ll get it eventually. Anyways, click the image above, it’ll open in a new window, and take a look!
**Note: After I made this video I realized I hadn’t touched on an important feature. The Polaroid Pogo is made with ZINK technology, and Zink stands for Zero Ink. So other than the battery and the paper there are no products to keep buying, no ink to run out of and no cartrdges to throw out. Can you tell I am jazzed about this? The only reason I can see someone not wanting this is print quality. I said it in the review and I’ll say it again – the quality is not super great. For my purposes, it’s totally fine, but don’t go think you’ll be making teeny tiny fine art prints. Still, I’m jazzed about this. Did I mention I was jazzed about this? See the image up there? That’s the face of a man that is jazzed.
**Note #2: I’ve since read alot of negative reviews of this, mostly from people who want a miracle. For working pros (admittedly not the gang this is marketed to), there may be many of us who find a really good application for this. For you, it might not be the cat’s pajamas. For me, it’s exactly what I need. Battery life could be longer, print quality could be much better, but if you NEED something like this – there’s nothing else like it. Ok, I’m done now. I promise (let it go, duChemin, LET IT GO!!)
Video worked great David. Review was also great and the possibilities for off the beaten track travel is awesome. This will break down barriers quickly.
David = You must have a special arrangement with Zink. I just attempted to order a printer and was told that it cannot be shipped internationally (Canada). Any ideas ?

Very well done. You are definitely on the right track with your reviews. Looks like a good product for me too.
That’s a really interesting review. I haven’t had a chance to see one “in real life” but I was trying to imagine what kind of situation this might be useful for as it was already clear that it wasn’t going to provide any kind of replacement for the other polaroid art techniques that will soon be gone.
Despite being a little inclined never to give Polaroid any more of my money for pulling the plug on my favourite film I could see that this little printer might persuade me to give them another chance !
Thanks for doing the review
Thanks for the review David. Already after you first mentioning it some weeks ago I thought this could be perfect for our trip to Swaziland!
@Harold: you can order it at Amazon.com. They ship to Germany, so I suppose they ship to Canada too?
That, let me tell you, is genius! I think that’s a fantastic product and I want one. Ideal for the application you describe and the model release idea is inspired. Nice review too, I’m enjoying the videos.
What manner of magic is this? All you need is the paper? Oh yes, I see that their very slogan is “The magic is in the paper.” Now it has all become clear. Amorphochromic crystal clear.
Pretty intelligent little unit. If I had a specialised use for it I might be tempted. To wait and get version 2.0, that is.
That’s a very snazzy device. I await ZINK Technology in full size printers. It woill save me a small fortune in ink costs.
also liked the video. It was a little pixelated(hahaha…oh never mind), probably because the iSight camera can’t produce a video at that size. but other than that, it was great. keep em coming
