Some Resources
November 11th, 2008
A little overwhelmed right now in the lead-up to heading off to Kenya. Both Sharon and I have residual stomach issues from Delhi, first time in a long, long while for me. And on top of that there’s just a mountain of things to do. So, this one is a little thin – but here’s some links I’ve been storing up, thinking about posting them in relation to the business side of things.
1. YouSendIt.com – I love this service. Makes sending larger files a breeze. They also have plug ins available so you can send files straight from Photoshop, iPhoto, Aperture, and…Final Cut Pro. You thought I was going to say Lightroom, didn’t you? Sadly no. But it still rocks, and it’s free. So if you ever have to send files to clients and, oh, say, their firewall strips all attachments – this is a great resource. I’ve got it bookmarked and use it a dozen times a week, easy.
2. Photopreneur has an article entitled “From Amateur Photographer to Professional Photographer in 4 Easy Steps” and while the title is nonsense, the content is worth a quick read, if only as a reminder, or as a primer to those about to wet their feet. I have a longer article posted HERE which goes deeper, so if you have time, read both.
3. Freelance Switch has an article out called “Start out Right: Avoid These 3 New Freelancer Blunders” that is also worth a read.

I’ve been happily using yousendit for a few years as well. If you are not a paying customer of theirs and want to send files over 100megs, Sendspace.com will take you all the way to 300.

I really like the inclusion of tips/resources on the development of business principles. If we don’t grasp the business concepts, then we are wasting resources that should be spent on enhancing our craft.
