Hodge Podge II – The Return.

More miscellanea for you today, but it’s good stuff.

Scott Kelby had some kind, and enthusiastic words about my book yesterday. Deeply gratifying to hear those things from a man who knows as much as he does about the publishing world. The feedback so far is universally strong and I’m more excited than ever to both see the final product and to unleash it on you.

Speaking of books, Joe McNally’s new book – The Hotshoe Diaries – is out and I made the acknowledgments. I can safely say this is a first for me, and to debut in Joe’s book makes me smile inside. But this is not about that. I still have not received my book from the publisher containing copies of The Hotshoe Diaries and that means if you’re patient and you enter the giveaway, you could still get your copy for free. The moment I get my copies I am closing the comments, making the draw and shipping them to the winners. UPDATE: Giveaway now closed. Will announce winners tomorrow morning.

Unrelated to books but entirely related to the stuff we talked about last week – check out the Accidental Creative and the MANIFESTO written there. #3 especially stands out to me: We understand that our vocation is bigger than our occupation. We’re on this earth to do more than earn a paycheck. Read the rest HERE.

Yesterday I linked you to Zack Arias’ blog and the portfolio critiques he’s doing there. Now would be an excellent time to remind you to head over there and catch some of that – there’s loads of wisdom in that man, and he’s sharing it for free. it’s also a good time to remind you that this month’s Giveaway is for a professional Fluid Galleries software package from Evrium. My galleries are built with this software and for easy of use and good looks, this software rocks. Check out the giveaway HERE. I’ll be doing the draw this Friday, so this is your last chance to get in on it HERE.

And finally, as I ease back into the gear talk, Think Tank Photo has just announced the re-design and availability of the Pixel Sunscreen. Now called the Pixel Sunscreen 2.0, it folds down in the same way a small light disc does, but pops up to create a tent for your laptop, shielding it on location from the bright sun. I imagine it’d be handy just to keep the blowing sand and grit, or light drizzle, off the laptop and drives too. You can see more information on it HERE and while this kind of thing seems frivolous to some, anyone that work on location and deals with sun and elements knows what a huge help something like this would be.

The image at the top and the ones following are from this Saturday’s Vancouver Pixelated Image Blog Gathering (or the VaPiBloGa as one reader suggested. Jury’s still out.) Photos courtesy of Daniel Berman, a young talent from Seattle. Thanks Daniel. I’ll let you know when the next one is. We had folks from Seattle and all over the lower mainland of BC. Fun times! (The guy in the plaid shirt, that’s me.)

Congrats on the book’s imminent release, David. Sounds like it’s going to be great. Sorry we never did manage to meet on it, but it sounds like you got along pretty well without me anyway.
