March 2009 Wallpaper
March 1st, 2009Your desktop wallpaper for March. It’s a bit of a departure for me; thought I’d try something a little different. I swore I’d never do anything that someone might call, ahem, “painterly” but I’m ready to admit this one might do that. Possibly too painterly. Next month I’ll have unicorns and fairies and stuff, God help us all. I shot it in Sapa, Vietnam, and developed the heck out of it in Lightroom and Photoshop. Nothing added or removed from the shot, just lots of adjustment layers.

i like this one!
What software do you use to develop the calendar and put superimpose it? My wife wants to make calendars with our photos and any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Looking at the photo, it made me say Hallelujiah!!
Seriously, i like this a lot. Thanks
@ Frank – I use plain ol’ Photoshop.
I’d love to see the original unprocessed version, any chance of posting it?
@ Ed – I’ll think about it. I’m not normally in the habit, but as an educational post it might have some merit. I might just do a walk-through of it if others express the same curiousity.
It must take a while to put the calendar together (getting it all aligned and all) in Photoshop?
I love this image! There’s a lot of beautiful and subtle stuff going on, the longer you look. Thank you!
Kathy
@ Frank – It did, once. I created a calendar as a layered PSD file and each month I’d move things around and save a version. So now I have 7 versions, all starting the month on a different day. Sometimes I show or hide a day or two at the end of the month, but it’s pretty quick and easy now.
Thank you David. You help make my desktop a welcome each morning
thx again for another cool background. my wife loved the vietnam (feb).. let’s see what she will say about this one
I’d love to see a walk-through!
Also curious about the walk-through.

I’d like to know how!!!
Hi David,
I’d like to know how you make your wallpaper.
I remember reading about a quick way to do it using a mac, but it’s so long since I’ve forgotten how.
I made a printed calender way back with Photoshop CS (I think) anyway it was before the much improved type tool.
I ended up with a layer for each date and having to select individual layers and align them. what a pain!
I look forward to learning how you make yours.
Kenny
