Within The Frame Thursday

May 7th, 2009

wtfcover-smA few book-related things this morning. Keep reading, there’s free stuff. Or potential free stuff.

First, the book is shipping! Several readers have emailed me saying they just got notice their pre-order was now shipping from Amazon. Folks that ordered direct from Peachpit are getting similar notices. So while May 11 is the official release, looks like Christmas is coming early. Right now the Amazon site says it’s in stock tomorrow, May 08.

Second, signed copies are still available. For those still emailing about signed copies – yes, they are still available. More information HERE.

Third, there will be Within The Frame related events in Vancouver on June 13, New York City on June 21, and Seattle on June 27. I’ll have more info as it’s available closer to the time, but I’d love to see you at any of those. Stay tuned.

Fourth, my publishers and I are doing a Twitterview today at 11am PST. It’s an interview over Twitter and it seems the theme they’ve chosen is a rather tongue-in-cheek WWDD, or What Would David Do? So take it with a heavy dose of humour and join us there. You might still have time to submit questions. More info on getting in on it go HERE.

Fifth, there is a Within The Frame group on Flickr HERE. We will be starting a ten-episode podcast that draws from the images submitted to that pool, and critiquing them with an eye to the principles and thoughts I discuss in the book. We have almost 60 members already which is pretty cool for a book not even out yet, but I’d love to have you join us and submit your images, as well as being part of the conversations going on over there. I’ll drop in from time to time, but th Within The Frame group was created as a place for readers to connect and discuss.

Sixth and finally, I’ve got 3 signed copies  of WTF to give away. It’s been a month since the last giveaway on PixelatedImage Blog and I aim to change that. So, anyone leaving a comment on this blog post, along with a name and email address where I can reach you, will be entered into a random draw at the end of the month and I’ll give away 3 signed copies of the book and ship them to you anywhere in the world. I know authors are meant to be pretty cool about this stuff, but I’m pretty darn excited about it, so I hope you’ll join me in celebrating. Leave a comment, win a book. Update: Comments are now closed. We got all spontaneous and caved in early.

If you have no idea what all this is about, go HERE for more information. :-)

Congratulations on the new release. Any plans for other Canadian dates for a WTF tour. Seems Toronto is starving for this kind of stuff these days.

Anyway if I miss the free copy I am sure chapters will have in stock soon enough

  13. comment number 13 by: João Pedro Silva

Have no words to tell how much I’ve already learned by reading your blog day by day! I’m a huge fan of your photographic principles and the way you “vision” the world. You’re the master, that kind of guy I wish I could seat on a table coffee to take a very long conversation about photography… and life. Thank you so much for your inspiration and knowledge. About the book, well I’m very excited to have it, but I have too wait by the “on-order” commmand at Amazon.co.uk, because I can’t find it in Portugal… a shame. Got used to it.
    “Um abraço e obrigado!”

  14. comment number 14 by: Marc-André Pauzé

I have red the first chapter. You did a great job. Congratulation.

  17. comment number 17 by: Joe

Free books I might not always warrant my time (too many out there), but GOOD books are another story =]

Too bad you’re only having the events in North America!

  18. comment number 18 by: Chris Plante

Yeah! My book will finally be shipped!

  19. comment number 19 by: JVL

  27. comment number 27 by: Scott Coulter

David: yours is one of my “must read” blogs and I’m really looking forward to the book.

  30. comment number 30 by: Stacy

David, love the first chapter – already ordered mine! Based on David Vernon’s comment above – if he intends to steal it from me, then clearly I am going to need another copy. Maybe if I get lucky and have a signed copy he can “steal” the unsigned one! Oh, and I believe I borrowed and safely returned McNally. Boy, what you’ve gotta do to keep the record straight! =)

  31. comment number 31 by: Tim Humble

Happy to have found you-mentioned by WD Welsh in his blog.

  35. comment number 35 by: Matt

Why is it that cool photo events like these never quite make it to Wisconsin? Oh, why did I move from California.

Again, thanks for all your insight; I know I have benefited from your openness.

  79. comment number 79 by: Elaine

Congratulations. I live in Vancouver so I’m pleased I’ll be able to meet you in person on June 13th — date already marked in the calendar & it’s a Saturday so no reason for work to keep me away.

Just walked in from the balcony after shooting (and eating) some of my garden crops. I have such a novice vision, if you can even call it a vision. Looking forward to developing it through WTF.

I would love to win a copy, but I probably won’t be able to wait.

My main reason for writing is to thank you for sharing your passion and knowledge. I’m continually amazed by the generosity of folks like yourself, McNally, Hobby, Arias, and many others I have yet to discover. It’s a great rush to learn and advance our skill, and is humbling that you take moments to share.

    Thanks again!

  94. comment number 94 by: Ali Rushton

OMG YOUR FREEAKIN FAMOUS! hahaha, 91 posts in one day has got to be one of ur personal records, and for good reason too!!!

Your success is inspirational to all of us, to see you ‘do it’ keeps our hopes fueled that one day we might just ‘do it’ too, where ever that falls in our own dream scape. As i finished up school this month, that fuel is more important than ever, to get off my butt and get going.

I would love to make it over for the party and i think ill hold out to get one signed in person. Congrats David… It would seem from what Ive learned about you in this short time, you are blessed and deserving. Enjoy this success. :)

I am so envious of you and the book. I did a book on rodeo years ago (that was never published) and the process, the photography, writing and layout kept me going for months. My inability to get it published (I sent “blads” to a dozen or book publishers a great disappointment. Congratulations.
