I need help (or NAME THAT eBOOK!)
April 5th, 2010![]()
I’m never sure what the “right” way to do this stuff is, but I’m hoping y’all can help me, so I’m just gonna spill the beans about the next eBook and put it out there.
I’m putting together a collection of the 50 most popular articles from the PixelatedImage blog as “best of” kind of eBook so the best content on the blog can be accessed and read offline. None of this 40-page stuff, this one’s going to be big. Right now it’s about 150 pages. Yes, you can get it all for free on the blog and I’m not going to be taking those posts down, but after all the endless “You should put this stuff in a book” requests I though it was time. 50 articles. Big images. All available offline. And still only $5 - less than that crappy latte that makes you all gassy and bloated anyways.
But I have no title and “The Best of…” sounds way too lame. And I want it to appeal to people who are not already part of this community so it can’t be self-referential. Afterall, the point is not that these are the most popular articles on the blog, the point is that somewhere in all my logorrhea there are things to be learned about the craft of photography. So I’m crowdsourcing this baby. Leave an idea for the title in the comments and the best one wins something. Not sure what just yet, but something. And if I chose to use the actual title, well, we’ll be sure to credit you and give you a free book. Or a copy of all the eBooks. Or something.
But it’ll be a good something. Promise.
Thanks in advance. On your marks, get set, go!

How about “Photography…In My Own Words” or “My Craft…In My Own Words.” These were the first titles that came to my mind. I’ll think up a few more for you. Great idea BTW!
How about ‘A half century of visionary photo tips’
First thought – play off PixaletedImages and photography sayings like an a picture is worth a thousand words.
50,000 Pixels
Compilation of Photographic “Anti-Rules” (on the road to find your vision)
How about “50 Amazing Pixelated Stories and Why”.
The Craft of Photography: Beginnings
Okay, not particularly inspirational, but, hey . . . it gets me on here first.
Oops, guess I was a bit slow.
Hi David
How about “PixelatedImage Blog – Selected” or “PixelatedImage – Selected”
Chris
How about “Pressed Pixels” or since this is going to be big… “Megapixel – tageline here”.
50 Lessons Learned About the Art & Craft of Photography
or
A Pixelated Restrospective
Well, off the top of my head there’s “Seeing The Light” but i’m not entirely convinced it would completely describe the contents – would depend what they are.
If I was being really tricky then there’s “Insightful Vision” ( In sight, full vision) and after that, i’ll need to have a think
How about The ‘Tog Blog?
How about “Gear is good, Vision is better” after the mantra for the blog?
“Pixelated Thoughts from the Web” as a first suggestion.
How about “On the Road to Vision: my a collection on the craft of Photography – from the blog”
OK. Here’s my lame contribution. The first 2 that come to mine are “Blog Gems” and “Vision Nuggets”. Yes they’re lame, but I did warn you!
How about “Because You Asked”.
Blogtography – Photography Bloggings
I also like “You Should Put This Stuff In A Book”.
From Thoughts to Action: Making Your Vision a Reality
‘The Big 5 0′ with a wee sub liner.
ha! I am excited to see this book – it’s hard to read everything on-line sometimes…
Maybe something that works in the ‘behind the frame’ from the first book?
Best From Within The Frame

Or just go right for the main point: “Here’s some more money David, damn you”
I think you already have the answer..
“50″
Or, if you want to go posh you can have Latin.
“L”
Sean
Great idea David
here is my suggestion Pixelated Picks

And I look forward to buying the book.
“A Matter Of Perspective”
Why not go with the tagline as the title? ‘Gear is good: Vision is better’ It’s what makes your writing distinctive.
“How to Stretch a Rubber Chicken: 50 great articles on the Craft & Practice of Photography”
It’ll definitely stand out as ‘unique’ in Google searches
What about : “Nifty Fifty”
“Vision Reframed”
Pixelatedimage at Its Best
Looking forward to your latest e-book and book “Vision & Voice”. Do you feel like Tolkein after he completed his series?
I see Jamie Wilmott beat me to it. The comments didn’t appear till I posted.
It’s an obvious (and good) choice.

something like that perhaps?

Well….sounds like your distilling your blog. So here is one along those lines:
Pixellated Hooch: Vision Distilled.
50 Of the Best – One Photographer’s Vision
Posts – Wisdoms, Ramblings, & More by David DuChemin
(alternately, you could title it ’50 of the Best By Di’s Photography Guru’ however my personal idea of guru might not work out as a sales incentive, writes this smiling woman) Good luck though.
50 Steps, One Voice
Hey David,
I know that this will probably not win me any prizes…but I actually like the subtitle of your blog as a book title (“Gear Is Good, Vision Is Better”).
It creates a full circle back to your blog and represents pretty good what this blog (and probably your most popular posts) are about…
Good luck, and thanks for your inspiring blog!
are you publishing the comments or just the blogs?
What about “Notes of a Photographer”. Cheers
“Intentional Photography: A vision-driven path to the journey of photographic expression”

EXPOSING THE HIGHLIGHTS…

How about something simple, “From Vision to Photograph”?
Sight and Insight: How I Honed my Photographic Vision
The Essence of Visions..
I like the “50,000 Pixels” and “L” ideas, very clever.
I was thinking something like the basics, a strong foundation, craftsmanship, maybe stonemasonry – how about “The Eternal Journeyman”?
“A Conversation on Vision”
“Unveiling The Eyes: Taking your photography from vision to image”
“Vision In Focus: Photography with Intent”
How about a simple “Vision is Better”.
“The Cream Of The Pixelated Crop (without the gas and bloating!)”
“Circle of Vision”
“Connected Vision”
“The Big Photo Blog”
“Blogged Vision”
“Blogged Inspiration”
The Inspired Blog”
Hi David – Just a few ideas! I just know you will find the right name…. you always do!
Thanks for always sharing… it means a great deal to all of us. Hope you manage to come to South Africa one day. Despite all the “drama” it is a truly “multi-facetted” beautiful country in more ways than one.

What about:
“Photography through my eyes”
In 50 articles
My suggestion is PixelatedVision.
“In My Words”
How about:
“From Vision to Craft: a collection of thoughts”
To align with your recent trilogy books i think “Vision & Voice: Pixelatedimage”

I also like the “David in Wonderland” idea, but there might be some copyright issues there. LOL
How about…
“Fast 50″
Or “Pixelated Image Remix”
“the vision never dies”
“your gear is dispensable, your vision isn’t”
I would like to say that I was going to suggest “Craft & Vision/Pixelatedimage: Exposing the Highlights”
but JohnWaire deserves the credit… Excellent title! +1 for that title!
Distilled Vision – The First 50
Simply :
“Pixels”
and if you have to subtitle , “50 Essays To Build
Better Pictures.”
cause that’s how I’ve always seen your posts. A
small piece of making better images. The pixels that build up our art.
How about “50 Proof: A distillation of vision” ?
How about “A Pixelated Journey” or “Pixelated Visions”.
Just keep em coming!
Vision Quest (bad movie…perfect title)
So many good suggestions already.
My thoughts went to “50/50 Vision” or something similar.
Maybe these are to simple but how about…
“The History of Vision”
“50 things I Learned Along the way”
“Shaping Vision: 50 Articles to improve your craft”
Since it’s probably a good idea to let people know up front about the content, my humble suggestion:
The Pixelated Image Anthology – Vol 1
Or with “blog” in there for:
The Pixelated Image Blog Anthology – Vol 1
(Because we know there’s more greatness to come in Vol 2…)
“Journey through the 50 Visualizations on Photography”
Another one … edit as applicable
A World of/in Vision, Told From/Through The Heart
update: lol
And “Told” can be swapped with “Seen” as well
Some great suggestions! Here are my two:
in Focus – 50 Intentional Lessons
Clear Vision – Image making with intent
With a nod to “Lance:
It’s not about the camera – lessons for learning to develop a creative vision for photogaphers”
Yeah, I know, lame and too long!
In any event, I can’t wait for the book to be available.
Thanks for the great books, David!

I was going to suggest, “Vision is Better,” without reading all the comments, but I did a search and it looks like Kathryn L beat me to it. To expand on that, maybe, “Vision is Better: The Best of David duChemin” – or some tagline like that.
Failing that, how about, “Vision Schmision: Gimme Gear!”
While I was typing, Jim made his suggestion, and I just have to comment: That’s hilarious! It sounds like Tom and Ray (Car Talk) wrote it!

How about:

“Vision Collective”
Perhaps with a sub-heading of “50 selected articles to develop your craft”
This first collection could be Vol. 1 as there is bound to be more great articles worthy of putting in another eBook sometime down the line.
Whatever you decide, good luck with it and keep up the great work!
“pixelated visions” or
“boiled down – ideas that will change your photography”
I have thought of a few more. “The Blog Chronicles”. Or maybe “Chronicles of My Vision”. I’ll see what else I can come up with.
“Pixelated Insights” … but I guess some of the other 100+ comments beat me on that one anyway

I’m still working on a serious title
Look forward to the condensed portable version of all this.
How about “Crafting Vision”?
Your writing applies to a lot more things that photography.
My suggestions, hope i did not repeat someone else’s:
1) Image Depixelated – 50 articles to strengthen vision and craft of photography.
2) Within the PixelatedImage – 50 Great paths to Photographic Enlightenment
3) Beyond the Gear and Glass- Focus your Photographic Vision with 50 great articles from David duChemin.
Vision Fuel – Vol. I
Hey David,
I haven’t posted here in a while, but I couldn’t pass this one up. Even though I haven’t been vocal, I’ve still been reading. Other priorities have kept my camera out of my hands a little too long. But I’ve still found inspiration from your words. I think it goes unmentioned how applicable your advice and philosophy is to other creative fields. In web design I’ve constantly battling to strike a balance between artistic expression and a usable experience, between creative solutions and the constraints of code.
But back to the reason for this comment and the 100+ before it. What if you titled this next eBook: “Parascope: Sharpening Your Pixelated Vision”. Like a real life parascope, this blog helps it’s readers to zoom in on their vision, blocking out unnesscary distractions, truly helping them to see better. Plus, parascope’s just a neat, underused words. Oh, and you get those two favorite words of yours in there “pixelated” and “vision”.
Just my two cents. Looking forward to seeing what you pick. Looks like you’ll have a lot to work with.
