September Giveaway – CS5 MASTER COLLECTION!

September 2nd, 2010

This is the big one folks. At the end of the month-ish I am going to ask my manager, Corwin, to do a draw while I am in Asia. That draw will be a random draw of names from the comments on this post. And that winner will get a FULL Adobe Creative Suite 5 MASTER COLLECTION! That’s a $2600 piece of software, y’all. It’s not a demo, it’s the real thing, and when we do the draw we’ll ask your preference of Mac or PC and have the Adobe Mothership send this straight to you.

The fine print? You have to leave a comment, and in the right places leave your name and email address. For bonus points you can tell people about the amazing photography education resources available for the ridiculously low price of $5 over at the Craft & Vision website, but that’s more for the keeners who do this kind of thing because they like to, not because they have to. Leave your name once, tell the world, that’s all. It’s an honour system thing. Well, the “tell the world” part is. The “leave your name and email address” part is actual pretty mandatory.

So there you have it. Huge thanks to Adobe for sharing the love with this community with no strings attached.

Update – The giveaway is now closed. Winner to be announced ASAP.

This is going to go orbital real quick. I’m assuming the ‘no strings’ means the offer is available outside Continental America but anyway I am already pointing people to the Craft & Vision ebooks as the best material I know for colleagues and friends who want to take their photography beyond first base without spending a fortune.

Wow! CS5 MC! That would be a very nice update to my CS3 Design Premium…If there is one word that describes David duChemin and his work it’s – opportunity. Whether it be his posts, his books or his Craft & Vision Series, he gives each and every one of us the opportunity to find out who we are as artists and pursue our passions.

Thanks David for your inspiration and perspiration!

  155. comment number 155 by: Dennis Grauel

I’ve read several of the craft and vision books. They’re unique, because they aren’t long reads, but rather short doses of inspiration. Poignant stuff!

  156. comment number 156 by: Steve Jackle

Vision is knowledge! Books and eBooks here increase your knowledge!!

  157. comment number 157 by: Ryan Hellevang

Great website, David – I really enjoy reading it as well as your books.

  158. comment number 158 by: dave logeman

Too often the industry pushes technology and gadgetry as a substitute for artistry and vision. The e-books on Craft and vision refocus the photographer what is truly important – what they are trying to say with their photographs.

Wow! Who would have thought I’d have the chance to get the Adobe CS5 Master Collection for less than the cost of one of your ebooks. That is, the same chance as the thousands that are going to show up here during the course of the next month. But still…keep the ebooks coming! Thanks for what you do!

Just call me an e-book junkie. I’ve purchased 7 – wow! My first was 10 ways to improve your craft – which I loved and it set me on my way to being hooked. Then I purchased Below the Horizon, Magic of BW II, Venice a Monograph, Safari a Monograph, Chasing Reflections, and finally Magic of BW III. I always buy at the ridiculously low price of $4 when they first are released. I love the whole concept of the project/photo essay approach to photography so love the Monograph series. The BW series is excellent. And, Eli Reinholdsten rocks with Chasing Reflections. So, for a total of $21 dollars I’ve learned an incredible amount.

So far, the only thing I’ve ever won was a 10-pound bag of oranges. So, I’m hoping this is the big one. (The oranges were good, but….) Enjoyed Eli’s book, David’s Ten Things, now working my way through Vision is Better, which is full of interesting, thoughtful, well-written stuff.

  369. comment number 369 by: Tim Shahady

David, thanks for all of the inspiration. The $5 e-books are required reading as are Visonmongers and Within the Frame.

I am looking forward to getting the Lightroom book soon.

  370. comment number 370 by: Jeremy Morrell

This is such an inspiring blog, and Within The Frame is easily the best book on photography I’ve ever seen. I’m really hoping you do a post soon on your thoughts on your tilt-shift lens, now that you’ve had a chance to break it in a bit. ;)

  371. comment number 371 by: Daniel Fuentealba

With an offer like this who would say no? I Just finished “Within the Frame” after reading most of your eBooks and “Vision and Voice”. You have succeeded in changing the way I approach every shot and my images are improving both out of the camera and after post-processing, mainly in LR3. Now if I could only find my vision :>(

    Hi David,

Thank you. Within the Frame saved me from my steroid-laced inner (ok, mostly outer) geek, and your eBooks enlighten, inspire, and entertain
me to no end. The concept of compression alone has me looking at photography in a whole new light, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. I’m currently living in Singapore.. Feel like doing a photo walk while you’re here? =D

Great stuff! Thank you!!

As the song says, “I was lost, then I found you” :-) Months ago I started following David, his books, and Craft & Vision ebooks, and… everything has changed since then!
Cradft & Vision is a great source of information, inspiration and creativity (which is not often taken into account) It’s the best place to come and learn photography in the terms of expression and creativity, not only in terms of technology and market pressures.
I just can say THANK YOU folks at Craft & Vision, and THANK YOU David for you work.

Over the past year I’ve grown from what I consider a “beginning amateur” to more of a “serious amateur”. The Craft and Vision e-books have been an excellent resource for me during this time. It all started with “10″ and “10 more” getting me out shooting every day and expanding my skills. This was followed by “Drawing the Eye” which helped even more. Thanks David for everything you do for all of us amateurs out in the world. Your words in print, on the web and via podcast/video are truely inspiring and your dedication to the craft and especially to helping others – like myself – develop their craft is the true essence of “giving something back”. Keep at it!

You really inspire me with you quest for vision (second try at convincing you I’ve read them all and another attempt at flattery). Seriously guys, say something positive? How about try and find something negative? I mean from the images, to the content the ebooks are proving to me that while the type on paper form of communication is on the decline (sadly) the importance of the printed word remains as strong as ever. What’s more, the need for quality content, not rehashed references to other work is particularly important too.
Keep up the fantastic job. I’m here for you when ever you need.

  457. comment number 457 by: Craig Roberts

I’m a huge fan of the three “real” books you put out – and of course everybody loves free stuff!

At $5, the craft and vision series might as well be free stuff – most people pay more than that for their daily addictions anyway!

  463. comment number 463 by: Alice

Well for this one I don’t have to work very hard at all. The topics you discuss are generally the things that as photographers we are all talking about already and your name comes up in almost every discussion. You certainly have the pulse of the photography community and we have all read at least one of your books. It is interesting to me how people emerge for this function and you are doing a great job of it. Perhaps that can be the theme of your next book lol.

Anyway, thanks for continuing to offer the $5 e-books… great resource at an unbelievable price.

    Safe travels!

I just discovered you via the TWIP interview and was totally enthralled and inspired. Keep up the good work. Love the ebooks idea. I will be trying it out myself soon.

After preparing breakfast to my sick son and of course the time difference, I’m able to sit at this chair to leave my comment. Fortunately, David, I have to say that I posted your collection on my twitter account (@iwidesign) yesterday :o )) I’m new to this technology but I find it amazing, thank you for your advice on this!

I had the lucky chance to meet you at the Photo Festivals here on Maui and after hearing your encouraging speech I really believe you can help and have helped many of us out there . . . why not promote such great, inexpensive product?

What I like about you most than anything else is your generosity. Many people that have reached success just care about being more and more rich everyday. You on the other hand are showing your true colors, as a photographer that pursue the soul of the people or landscape in every photo, I wouldn’t expected anything less.Thank you! I wish more unique people like you were out there :o )

P.S.: I’m getting your book today!

    Have a nice trip!!
    Ceci

I’ve got 4 of the eBooks from Craft & Vision and I must say that each one helps me to simply take a step back and THINK. Think about what I want to shoot, why I want to shoot it, and what I could do to make my photo more unique. Yes, there are some technical details, but the thrust of these books is to help us put more thought into our work and make it art. Thanks David for helping us along this journey!

Within the Frame is simply the best book of photographic insight that has been published to date…I doubt that it will ever be challenged. Visionmonger is the most readable book written on moving the vision to a paycheck… These two books will do more for more photographers than anything on the market. The vision, the web site, the Focus for Humanity Foundation and all the rest that David has put back into the ‘community’ mark him as a true visionary who is changing the face of photography, I know of no other photographer who has been so unselfish with his vision…I am proud to be a fan and a follower…

Oh yeah this is the big one David, but I don’t think I want to advertise this and reduced my chances of winning. Oh well I never win anything anyway *frown* so I might as well tell the world. :)

I’d love to win just so I can make Adobe my bitch whenever I call for assistance, just so I can say yep, I’ve got the license for that, and that, and that, and that!

My dream has always been to accumulate every Adobe license and lord over those snooty customer service worms who make fun of my CS3 license, I just want to make those bastards crawl at my feet like the dogs they are. heehee :D

PS, I better not win because I just paid for Light Room 3 and CS5, so if by some inexplicably lucky roll of the dice I should be chosen, rest assured I will be getting my money back on those licenses.

How to stand out in a crowd ? I think by being honest
I’m not a professional otherwise I would likely not follow your blog and would buy adobe cs5 myself.
I’m a serious photo-hobbyist who finds sparks & inspiration in the eCraft books and your blog.
Sparks are twinkling eyes in the pictures of people and the twinles it brings me to strive for more sparkling in my pictures
As you rightfully point out , it is not about the gear or the technology or the software, it’s about the creative vision which we bring to our photo’s. I would be pleased with the software but I can also llive without

    Hi David,

This is an awesome giveaway that you have put together with Adobe. Thanks so much for doing this!

To everyone else: if you haven’t purchased any of David’s Craft & Vision e-books, you are definitely missing out. Whether you are just starting out or if you have been in the photography business for awhile, they are a very worthy read! On another note, Vision Mongers was a killer book and I’m actually going to read it again!

Managed to miss the $4 period for the latest book but will add it in to my next purchase. I bought Visionmongers some months ago and love it; now have Within the Frame and Vision & Voice and am making my way through them. Then I attended your talk at B&H (and made a slightly doofus comment) and have watched most of your podcasts but the creativelive weekend was just fantastic and I’ve downloaded it so I can keep referring back (also with the time difference and the photowalk, I knew I’d be missing a lot of the live feed). When I saw you demonstrating LR3, I knew I had to have it. Now that I’ve won in my Photowalk group, I’m hoping that my purchase turns into a freebie. David, I have to ask, could you find a way of pronouncing your name so that it doesn’t sound like you’re saying “doucheman”? ;-)
Looking forward to getting more into this blog.

1037. comment number 1037 by: Bjorn Dalin

Thanks for an inspirational website with many good thoughts on photography that aren’t technical. There are sometimes to much techtalk out there and little about what the photographs really communicate.

I work as a teacher in photography in Stockholm, Sweden. I teach beginners to intermediate level (one year class two full days a week). Even though I of course I teach technical basics I tend to talk more and more about what the images do to us. That’s what I find interesting about your site.

    Thanks

1044. comment number 1044 by: Keith Mallett

    Hi David,
I ‘found’ your blog via the Manfrotto pages and have since pointed friends as well as myself towards your musings. I enjoy your discussions about photography and your focus on vision rather than gear. My two bobs worth on the art discussion – through a lifetimes involvement with photography I have always considered that photography must be a seamless merging of art with craft – I have occasionally seen great art let down by poor craft – but more often seen superb craft bereft of art, and thus life. Cheers, Keith

David, I just read your Book, Within the Frame. I am a rank amateur photographer who is striving to improve my skills because I, like you, have a vision. Your “list of things you care about and are drawn to” on page 11 prompted me to create my own list: old barns and dilapidated farm buildings; people in the final days of life; babies and teenagers. I’m currently running on Photoshop Elements, so winning this prize would be a dream come true! Thanks for your work!

1085. comment number 1085 by: Greg

David, just picked up your book “Within the Frame” after discovering it at the bookstore. Got home and had to look up your website to see some more of your stunning work, truly inspirational! I will be visiting your site and blog often for inspiration. Would love the software, really want to take my photography to the next level by reaching my vision with the final step – postprocessing. Thanks for the opportunity!

1098. comment number 1098 by: Col Cartwright

Without any hesitation, I recommend any aspiring photographer to read all of David’s books. His “Craft & Vision ebook series as well as his three published books (Within The Frame, Visionmongers and Voice & Vision) are extremely well written with each one providing a deep well of wisdom and inspiration that will take your photographs to completely new levels. Without a doubt, David’s thoughts, anecdotes and perspective on how to go about using your camera to create and capture great photographs, is worth much more than any new piece of photography gear. Buy just one of them and you will understand why.

And since I’m leaving a comment here anaway, I might as well tell you here (on the slim chance you actually get through all the comments before mine) that “Within The Frame” really changed my relationship with photogaphy. Before I tried bulid up my craft to perfection, thinking then I’ll finally get satisfaction from my own photographs.
Now I know I was looking in the completely wrong direction!
Thank You for showing me the right door!!!

P.S. I would have written an e-mail the day I finished reading the book, but, you know, that’s kind a geeky.. ;)

I’m working my way through these eBooks. I love them! “10″ and “10 more”, “The Magic of B&W” series and “Iceland” have been very enjoyable. Like “Within the Frame”, I’m inspired by them and intimidated. Vision and creativity have always been the hardest parts of photography for me.

1279. comment number 1279 by: Natalie

As a novice photographer, it’s hard to find books that actually walk you through a process unashamedly rather than leaving you feeling like you need to be a professional photographer just to have the privilege of reading the book. Not to mention the price. Some tomes cost $55 and have one iota of the value of a C&V Ebook.
Amazing content, clear delivery and an unbeatable price. How could you NOT buy each and every single one?

I’ve heard you on the podcasts, your own and as guest and your vision is truly unique. What inspires me most about you is not only the effort you put into your photography, but the effort you put in with people. If there were more people like you in this world – it would be a much better place.
I’ve been following your blog, and have read your e-books (I can’t believe we can have that much insight for only $5). I’ve been shooting for a year now, but only through you I’ve been trying to create my own vision.

I read Within The Frame last year and this is how I discovered David. That book gave me a lot of inspiration to improve my photography, so the logical step for me was to follow David via RSS feeds. I have purchased at least five of the e-books, including the three about black and white photography by Andrew Gibson. I love them all. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge and passion at such a small price.

My current favorite is the Iceland eBook. Iceland is a place I would like to visit one day. So far I only saw the exquisite beauty of this land on nature films, and now on David’s photographs. It would be worth to look at this book just for the photographs, but I truly enjoy the part where we can look into the process.
Learning how the photographs were taken to reflect best the atmosphere of the landscape is very helpful. It helps to bridge the gap in our knowledge about how to create the best image possible about what’s in front of us.
Thank you for adding this beautiful book to the eBook collection.

Thank you. :-)

I didn’t know anything about technique when I first picked up a camera. After reading four of the awesomely cheap ebooks, I am well on my way to developing my own vision. They are easy to read/understand and are extremely informative in a practical way. If you haven’t bought any of them…DO IT! You are stupid to pass up years worth of information and knowledge for 5 bucks.

1357. comment number 1357 by: Alan Olson

    David,

I love all your ebooks and regular books as not only do they have a wealth of information and great photographs but more importantly, they are all challenging us to quit looking at gear and wishing what we don’t have and getting out there and making photographs with what we have. The ebooks (and other books) are the best money I’ve spent on anything photography related.

1358. comment number 1358 by: Brian Belknap

While I recognize that the intention of your blogs is for regularly scheduled education and inspiration, I tend to use your blogs to get past the “Ugh! Can I really do this?” moments…the metaphorical 2nd cup of coffee on those tough-to-motivate days. (hence the last minute entry as I am in the midst of one of those moments)
So, thanks for the giveaway opportunity and keep the inspiration coming.
